Benefits

Go Between Bridge increases accessibility to and from some of Brisbane’s most popular recreational, cultural, educational and residential precincts including South Bank, West End, Caxton Street and Park Road.

The project is an important part of Council’s plan to address the city’s long-term transport needs and will offer relief to existing bridge crossings, improving accessibility for motorists, public transport, pedestrians and cyclists.

Motorists benefit from reduced congestion and improved travel times. An additional four traffic lanes across the Brisbane River provide relief in the event of an accident elsewhere in the network. People who continue using William Jolly Bridge will benefit from reduced congestion.

Pedestrians and cyclists benefit from a much needed addition to their network. Generally Brisbane residents will have increased accessibility to popular precincts like South Bank, Suncorp Stadium and Park Road. Businesses on both sides of the river also benefit from increased visibility and accessibility.

Overall benefits include:

  • Important cross river link improving accessibility
  • Help cater for future growth in West End and South Brisbane
  • About 30 per cent of cross river demand in 2021
  • Improved road network legibility and reduce cross river delays.
